The Last Real Post

Here's one last post before I move everything over to the MuNu site. I thought it might be appropriate to do a little politics for the last time. Yesterday, I was out at noon time and heard Rush Limbaugh talking about this article in the Washington Post:

Kerry's Inner Circle Expands

If you want a sneak preview of how Kerry will run things if he's elected, just take a look at how he's running his campaign.

The campaign now includes 37 separate domestic policy councils and 27 foreign policy groups, each with scores of members. The justice policy task force alone includes 195 members. The environmental group is roughly the same size, as is the agriculture and rural development council. Kerry counts more than 200 economists as his advisers.

Just look at the number of economists... 200!!! Now I ask you, when was the last time you heard even 2 economists agreeing with each other? Now multiply that by 100... You can see why Kerry has a hard time making decisions.

The other problem with this many people vying for Kerry's attention - jealousy, frustration, an inability for the "task forces" themselves to function.

One task force is still arguing whether it should be titled the council on babies, children and youth or just children and youth.

I'm beginning to think that this might be why Kerry didn't "have time" for a national security briefing that was offered to him. He's got so many other meetings going all the time, he can't be bothered right now with a minor thing like security. I guess he'll just leave that to the Bush administration. But what is he going to do if he gets elected and they aren't there anymore? Will he leave the economy to the economists? Or will he leave the national security to the Joint Chiefs? Or will the environmentalist people be left out in the global warming? It's a dilemma.

The Big Move - Part 2

I am feeling harassed. Work has been unbelievably busy (I was up running reports and sending things out until midnight last night - and yes, it's always an emergency *sigh*). I have had so many places to be and things to do, I haven't even had a chance to do more than glance at my favorite blogs. This weekend is completely taken up with non-bloggable time.

So, in the interest of getting myself moved over to the new spiffy MuNu digs, I will post here until Friday and then, I will start posting on the new page. This should give everyone else enough time to let The Bartender know if there are any problems viewing the page. (looks pretty good so far - no one has been complaining - but if you have a problem, be sure to drop a note in the comments over there!)

Typepad and MT are pretty close, but not exactly the same, so it may take me a bit to get my archives moved over there and also to figure out how to mess with my sidebar links which I do need to update a bit. I won't be putting anything new on this site except a few more posts.

Now all I really need to do is find out if I can keep a pointing post on the page or if I have to come back weekly to be sure it's still there. Typepad is odd in that way, it's impossible to keep something at the top of the page (at least on the lesser accounts) It doesn't let you mess with timestamps or stuff like that.

There must be a way though and I'll figure it out ---- eventually. When I have time... Yeah right.

Carpet - the sequel

So yesterday we got new carpet and everything went swimmingly. It looks great, the furniture is back in place (not the books... but I can't do everything in a day). But there simply MUST be a glitch. It's required in every single home improvement project we ever do.

Today, as I sat and watched, the trash guy, emptied our can and then left all that old carpet!!! We've had carpet done before (as I stated earlier) without the haul away being a problem. Trash guys come by, load it up and take it away. As long as it's cut into 4 ft rolls and is manageable. Not anymore....

We ended up having to load the crappy old stuff in the minivan (now there's a good use of space) and take it to the dumpster of the carpet place. On calling both the trash people and the carpet people. Having THEM come do it would cost between $100 to $300. However, the carpet store said if we dumped it in their dumpster, there would be no charge.

There you are, that's what my husband and I did this morning... hauled carpet. Dirty, smelly, old carpet. Very likely with bugs and all kinds of stuff from having been outside all night. *sigh*

Well, at least it hadn't rained...

The Big Move!

Yes, this blog is moving. It hasn't moved yet, because we're still testing. But The Bartender (who is just as persistent as Harvey) convinced me that being a Munuvanian (???) would be a very good thing. Then he proceeded to create a new look for my site. Pam employed her artful designs to some banners, buttons, and comment banner (which I missed earlier) .

Your assignment now is to head over to the new MuNu Technicalities and let us know how it looks on your browser. Comment over there so everything is in the same place.

Now I have to go over there, correct some spelling and then collapse into bed. It's been a VERY long day. Luckily it was uneventful, the new carpet is in place. But more later when I can see straight!

House Redo... Carpet

Tomorrow morning... sometime, I haven't a clue WHEN, people with new carpet will show up and install same in my living room, the stairway and upstairs hall. Should be a really fun day... I guess this means I'll have to actually bestir myself at some ungodly hour of the morning, so I'm ready when they get here.

The one bright spot will be - the old crappy carpet, that was basically uncleanable and smelled awful, will be gone. Things should be looking up by tomorrow evening... I hope.

Although I am not using the same carpet people, I still remember the nightmare of the last installation. We were doing our bedroom and the stairs down to the basement. (2 totally different places in the house, 2 totally different carpets). When the man came to measure, he asked this specifically - I said NO! they are NOT the same carpets or colors. He wrote it down... they still ordered it wrong. We ended up with a 3/4 installation in our bedroom for a week!!!

Not to mention, when the men doing the installing found out about the mistake, they took off like bats out of hell (done for the day, quick run home before we have to stay longer!). I had to literally stop their car in the street and make them go back in the house and put the door back up in our bathroom! They had taken it off the hinges to get it out of the way. Not to mention finding a spare piece of carpet to put over the tack strip that lay directly across the door into the bathroom. (ah can you see it, you go walking barefoot into the bathroom only to forget the tack strip is there!) And last of all not not not mentioning that they didn't cut the carpet up into small enough pieces for us to put out at the curb for pickup.

So, you see I am a bit anxious about this. Not much, just a bit. All the carpet is the same color this time, so I can hold a tiny shred of hope that things will go right...

Dana's Right!!!

Almost 2 weeks ago it was her blogoversary!!! I dropped her a comment congratulating her and fully intended to come back here and blog it up! After all I have managed to blog several anniversaries lately. However, I got sidetracked and completely forgot!!!! Yes folks, memory span of a gnat - it's very very sad... *sigh*.

Today, in honor of FrankJ's blogoversary, she's linking to the only 2 bloggers who took note of her blogoversary. I like that - LOL. And creative thought like that certainly needs some extra linkage!

How to Deal with France...

DO NOT under any circumstances sign an oil contract with them.

That is all.

Birthdays!

A very happy Blogoversary to FrankJ of IMAO! Two years ago a blog was born and FrankJ started throwing out his humorous electrons to the internet wind. Life has never been the same! His Know Thy Enemy Series has got to be some of the funniest stuff ever written! It's nearly impossible to pick just one thing, so in honor of my post yesterday about the press conference Tom Ridge held to tell us that terrorists might strike... go read A Frank Guide to Homeland Security Alert Levels. You won't be sorry you did!

And yes it does say "birthdays" above. The other birthday, even more fun than FrankJ's, belongs to my darling daughter who was born 25 years ago today. I'd tell her Happy Birthday online, except she doesn't read blogs... come to think about it, I don't think she knows I blog - LOL. So, I shall have to be conventional and buy a card.

How Do You Flunk a Quiz Like This?

So Harvey has this list of quiz questions that he borrowed from Lynn of Reflections in d minor. And as I was reading through them I realized... geeze I can't even pass for Trailer Trash... Thus I hang my head in shame as I post my answers to these most difficult questions!

24. John Wayne or Clint Eastwood? Can I have both?

So there you have it. Sad isn't it.

When in Danger...

Or in doubt
run in circles
scream and shout

This has become the norm for dealing with the public about terror threats...

Ridge Warns of Election Terror Plot

Now please people, does anyone seriously think there WON'T be some attempt at a terrorist strike as the election gets close? After Spain? I am of 2 minds about these type of press releases.

First of all, there is the huge problem the government faces - if you don't SAY anything, you can't possibly be DOING anything. It's one of the more irritating aspects of dealing with the current media. They insist on irrelevant chit chat. I assume this is to fill up newsprint columns and empty air time. After all with news 24/7 they really need LOTS of fodder to fill in the holes. This leads us to press conferences giving us absolutely useless information, which brings me to...

My second point - what exactly are we supposed to DO with this type of information? Are we supposed to look for suspicious Middle Eastern men? (Do most Americans know a Mid-East Male if they see one? I'm of the opinion about the worst thing a dark skinned man can do is to wear a turban - for some reason, people equate this with being an Arab.) Do Americans know what a "suspicious looking" package might look like? Can they tell the difference between someone hanging around waiting for a friend to show up and someone "casing" a building looking for a good way to do damage?

Short of someone driving up to me and pointing out a trunk full of explosives to my direct notice, I'll leave the finding of terrorists to the proper authorities. In the article linked above it seems Tom Ridge is adhering to my first point.

Asked why he had made a public announcement on Thursday, Ridge said that after the attacks in Madrid, Spain, he considered it "very important, on a periodic basis, to frankly just give Americans an update as to where we are and what we are doing"

Well fair enough and short of him disclosing actual security precautions, which is rather like broadcasting troop movements to the enemy, I must assume they are hard at work doing their jobs. Naturally a Democrat has to give his take, for that balanced storyline...

But Texas Rep. Jim Turner, the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, said what is needed is action. "A press conference will not deter a terrorist," he said.

Um - gee ya think? I do hope that Tom Ridge takes Jim Turner's suggestion under consideration. Perhaps if Tom calls the next press conference and carts an M16 in with him...
