So I took the train downtown to a meeting today. On the way home a girl was sitting across the aisle from me talking to a friend. She was about 22-25 years old. She had picked up one of the papers to read on the train. This in itself surprises me - especially considering the conversation that followed.
Girl: OMG did you see what those people over there did to those Americans? Dragged them through the street, set them on fire, and hung them from a bridge. There were also 5 soldiers killed too. I just don't know why we're still over there...
Friend : Mutters something unintelligible over the noise of the train.
Girl : Well haven't they caught that other guy they were after? You know the one I mean?
Friend : bin Laden?
Girl : Yeah, is that's his name, I haven't heard about him in so long, I couldn't remember it. Can't they just get him and then everyone can come home?
*******
There you have it folks! The future of our country, a young leader of tomorrow. OMG we're in such big trouble!
That just makes me cringe.
Reminds me of the girl next to whom I am working this very second. When asked why she didn't like Bush, she said, "I don't know. I just dont'"
Yes, she's in college.
Or one of my young female college profs (probably late 20's, early 30's) who criticized Newt Gingrich because "he looks goofy".
Sheesh.
