So yesterday I met Tammi for lunch downtown and we had a terrific day! First off I must say that although I enjoy going downtown, I don't get there very often, thus I'm not really exactly sure where most landmark things are located. So, when Tammi said I should meet her at the Palmer House hotel, I did what all good computer geeks do and googled it... LOL. Naturally, this gets me close - but I am perpetually directionally challenged and I simply couldn't find it! I ended up wandering around on State Street by Marshall Fields and leaving messages on Tammi's phone til she called back. (turns out her phone gets no signal in the lobby of the Palmer House!)
As she mentioned on her blog, summer has retreated from Chicago for the time being. It was about 60 degrees yesterday and naturally, being Chicago, the wind was blowing. (although thankfully not as hard as it could've been). So, Tammi. in her 3/4 sleeve shirt and skirt, braved the cold weather to come find me.
We had a lovely lunch - first time I've been to Heaven on Seven. Being Saturday, it was almost empty, so the servers didn't seem to mind that we stayed for a fairly long time at the table. Then we went back to the Marshall Fields on State Street. I like Field's, but I had never had time to actually go inside the downtown version. I just remembered something - my Grandmother worked at that store almost 100 years ago!!! Amazing isn't it! What beautiful buildings they used to build!
Anyway, it turned out to be a delightful day all around. I am really looking forward to the next time Tammi makes it up here - next up are the museums (at least one of them - LOL).
September, and I'm mailing the winter coat home to Mom's now! :)
