I wanted to find time to blog about this over the weekend, but time being in short supply lately, I'm only getting to it now.
As anyone knows who isn't living in a hole, Bill Clinton's new book is making waves. Over the weekend, as I was dashing about in my hideous mini-van and listening to the radio, I heard the spot for the 60 Minutes interview numerous times.
I am still finding it almost unbelievable that they used such an awful quote to promote the show. First is Dan Rather trying to sound grave and impressive as he lets us know he'll be talking to Bill about his book. Then, I actually have to cringe for the former President, they play this...
I did a bad thing.
Ummm... tell me again, how old is this man? This sounds like a 3 year old (and yes, it sounded just the way you might think in the spot). I can almost see his lower lip stuck out and his thumb heading toward his mouth. The contrite look begging us not to put him in time-out!
I wonder how 60 Minutes decided this would be the best quote, the ear catcher if you will, to get people to listen to the show! It makes them all look exceedingly childish (Bill for saying it, and CBS for using it). The LAST thing I want to hear is an hour of Bill Clinton whining about how he was wronged! Now maybe the entire interview wasn't about him whining, but what should be my expectation of the content if THIS is the ad?
Then the immature idiot gets pissy during a BBC interview and blows up at the guy asking the questions!

...and this man was our President? It's hard to believe. :/

Hmmm. I'll have to look around for this story elsewhere - Newsmax is not my favorite source for news, they tend to stretch things a bit and often have uncorroborated stories that no one else ever picks up.
But actually I've never forgiven them for posting an ad and making it look like a news story... sheesh. If they want me to take them seriously at all, they can't post infomercials with no delineation between them and the "real" stories. *sigh* Yeah, I'm picky that way. LOL.
