Carpet - the sequel

So yesterday we got new carpet and everything went swimmingly. It looks great, the furniture is back in place (not the books... but I can't do everything in a day). But there simply MUST be a glitch. It's required in every single home improvement project we ever do.

Today, as I sat and watched, the trash guy, emptied our can and then left all that old carpet!!! We've had carpet done before (as I stated earlier) without the haul away being a problem. Trash guys come by, load it up and take it away. As long as it's cut into 4 ft rolls and is manageable. Not anymore....

We ended up having to load the crappy old stuff in the minivan (now there's a good use of space) and take it to the dumpster of the carpet place. On calling both the trash people and the carpet people. Having THEM come do it would cost between $100 to $300. However, the carpet store said if we dumped it in their dumpster, there would be no charge.

There you are, that's what my husband and I did this morning... hauled carpet. Dirty, smelly, old carpet. Very likely with bugs and all kinds of stuff from having been outside all night. *sigh*

Well, at least it hadn't rained...

Where's Global Warming When You Need It?

As I sit here typing - it is currently 55 degrees and headed down to the mid 40's tonight. You do realize that it is June 24th! It's supposed to be summer... I HATE being cold! HATE IT!

One of those Days...

Working on the house. It's one of my least favorite things to do. Oh yes, I've met people who love working on their houses, and yet I don't see the thrill. I'm happy when the work is done and I can go back to doing other things. But for the next several weeks, working on the house is going to be taking up the lion's share of my time.

Right now we're getting ready to paint. We have someone coming in to do the actual painting, but the preparation work is just endless. Wallpaper needed to be stripped from the family room, kitchen, stairway and upper hall. Lucky for us, the people here before us only used the paste on the paper to stick it into place. It peeled off very easily, my husband has spent lots of time washing the residual paste off while I'm cleaning cabinets and closets. We're getting there. Then books have to be removed from 3 large bookcases, so the cases can be moved away from the walls. Holes must be patched. Corners repaired. Yada, yada, yada...

Then once the painting is done, we have new tile for the front entry and new carpet to be put in. THEN we have to paint 2 bathrooms - one must be stripped of wallpaper - have I mentioned how much I HATE wallpaper? The people who lived here before us loved working on the house and they did just about everything WRONG! We've been here almost 8 years, we're still fixing things. But now we're fixing in order to sell. Gads that makes me tired. At some point in time, I have to get outside and work on the yard some more, especially the front and back garden areas (sides of the house are not of immediate importance).

Oh yeah, and there are still a few doors to hang in front of the closets in the basement, we never got around to that when we redid the floors down there... Are we feeling just slightly overwhelmed yet? This is just glossing over the entire list. It wouldn't be so bad if I LIKED doing it - but it takes away from my computer time *G* which is it's greatest sin in my book.

Well, one thing at a time and it will all get done eventually. Then when (keeping fingers firmly crossed) beloved husband finds a job, we'll be able to move without too much fuss. Um - yeah - dream on!

Yeah I Know...

I haven't been blogging, or even able to get to all my favorite blog reading this week. Apologies to all the lovely lovely people who have been leaving excellent comments. I've been working like a maniac plus I have very sore muscles from the middle of my back up through my neck making it difficult to spend quite so much time at the computer. I'm not trying to ignore anyone - promise!

First comes work - which pays the bills. Then when I'm done with that, I just want to put my head down somewhere and rest my neck muscles... I'd drink heavily, but I don't think that would be a good idea with the Ibuprofen I've been taking.

And now for something completely different - back to work - oh yeah, that's more of the same isn't it.

The Crackers Declare Cyberwar on the USA

Its name is Hackers Against America (HAA) and their web site is hosted on a Russian server. According to what is written on the main page, they plan to integrate new members and launch attacks against computers based in the US (cracking some of them but also use worms, viruses) in order to steal private documents. Some samples of documents and codes are available on the web site, although they don't seem to be secret at all and possible to find by using search engines.

This attack brought to you via the Internet - developed and given to the world by the USA...

I'm just wondering how many stolen documents constitutes a battle? And if you mine the documents with secret virii to explode on the hacker's system, is that considered killing your opponent? Will groups of home users banding together for protection be considered an online hometown militia - and more importantly will they be trusted with weapons that can fend off the aggressors? If we reciprocate the attack and they want to give up, do they wave a posting at us on Slashdot? Will there be names ringing across the internet like Battle of the Cisco Routers or Battle of the Domain Name Server?

One Day I'll Get Caught Up

So I was trying to go through my blog roll from my blog - as opposed to using my bookmarks. When I discover that somehow I overlooked putting e-Clair up on my own blog's roll. I'm thinking "how could I have missed this?" and "I could swear I had her on my blog roll". But no - searching through all the list - the link was just not there. *sigh*

Because the blog roll appears to be lower-case challenged, I made the "e" in e-Claire upper case so I can keep the alphabetical order going the way I want it. And because I'll never remember to page down to the end to find the lower-case entries...

Since I'm already having one of those days when I am simply annoyed at everything and everyone, I have now managed to become annoyed with myself. Way to finish off the weekend!

Friday Night Ramblings

Yes this falls under Ho-Hum because it's been one of those days. I was going to post something about Rep. Corrine Brown's remarks to Roger Noriega about white men. But what is there to say about a racist-bigot? She will get a pass because first she's a Democrat, second "she" is a woman, and third she's black. She has even convinced herself that the remarks were not of a "personal" nature and therefore should be okay. Any bets on whether she's forced to resign? Any thoughts on how fast the liberal news media will try to bury the story? ..... No? Thought not.

OTOH Martha Stewart got some excellent news today when the most serious charges against her were dropped for lack of evidence. I'm glad to hear it. No matter what you think of Stewart, those charges should never have been brought, and once they were on the table, the judge should've immediately thrown them out. Kinda scary to think you can have charges brought against you if you proclaim you are innocent! Or maybe that's only if you're Martha.

And I see that John Kerry has a plan to make us safer.

The front-runner used a campaign speech to outline his plan to combat terrorism that relies on stronger intelligence-gathering, law enforcement and international alliances — proposals that Kerry has been touting for more than a year.

I'm kinda curious about how he plans on doing this. It's been well documented that he spent much of his time in the Senate trying desperately to cut the budget drastically to the Intelligence agencies. He couldn't figure out why we needed to spend so much money on them. And I also wonder who he wants to make alliances with... it's got to be France. They're about the only country not talking to us. Even Germany is making nice.

As I said Ho-Hum...

Yep it's Monday

I think Mondays deserve their own category. Ho-Hum is concise, much better than "the blah day after the weekend" or "yeah it's still grey, cold and there's snow on the ground". Those seem just a bit too wordy for me. So, where is the first place one should visit when feeling blah....

Why LeeAnn of course! Who else has such zealously religious neighbors?

And swinging by the party at Darren's I now have a lovely drink to smooth things over. So I was all ready to read about Darren's analysis of how badly al Qaeda is failing in Iraq. (I thought he was on vacation...)

Heather brings some PETA hilarity to my day, maybe she'll show up at Darren's with Chicken Wings...
